这首歌原本是一首英文诗，此诗词作者及写作时间已不祥，但最有根据的是于1932年，在美国马利兰州巴尔的摩市，一位名为Mary Elizabeth Frye(1905- 2004)的女士，为了她的好友Margaret Schwarzkopf的母亲过世而写的作品。
由于此诗词本身并无名字，因此，一般人就以其第一句'Do not stand at my grave and weep'来命名
